PORTLAND — Completed nomination papers for November elections are beginning to make their way back to the city clerk’s office, providing a peek at who will be running for the City Council and School Committee this fall.

At-large City Councilors Jill Duson and John Anton handed in papers this week. Anton is seeking a second term on the council, while Duson will run for her fourth term.

Duson, who has also served two one-year terms as mayor, lives in North Deering. Anton is a West End resident.

Residents Charles Bragdon and John Woods have also taken papers out for the two at-large seats.

In District 3, Will Mitchell returned papers this week for the City Council seat currently occupied by Councilor Dan Skolnik, who is not seeking re-election. Two other possible candidates, Eric Grant and former Councilor Ed Suslovic, have taken out papers but had not returned them as of Tuesday morning.

Mitchell is a Deering Highlands resident and a son of Democratic gubornatorial candidate Libby Mitchell.

Also in District 3, Frank Gallagher returned papers for the School Committee. A potential competitor, Laurie Davis, has taken out papers but had not returned them as of Tuesday morning.

Current District 3 School Committee member Peter Eglinton is not seeking re-election.

Gallagher, like Mitchell, resides in Deering Highlands. He is on the city’s Community Development Block Grant Allocations Committee.

There are two at-large School Committee seats up for election in November. Incumbents Jaimey Caron and Kathleen Snyder have taken out papers, but have not returned them. Resident Morton Soule has also taken out papers.

Competed nomination papers have to be returned to the City Clerk by Aug. 23. Election Day is Nov. 2.
