PORTLAND — Three candidates have withdrawn from the Nov. 8  general election.

In the District 3 City Council race, Carol Schiller withdrew after turning in nomination papers Aug. 29. Incumbent Councilor Ed Suslovic is challenged by Brian Batson in the district that covers the southern and western portion of the city, from Libbytown to Stroudwater.

Incumbent Democratic state Rep. Richard Farnsworth will be unopposed in House District 37 after Republican Donato Apon withdrew Aug. 29. Apon’s withdrawal comes after the deadline for the GOP to replace him on the ballot. District 37 encompasses an area similar to city District 3.

Green Independent Party candidate Russell Hoskins withdrew from the race for House District 40 on Aug. 30. He too, cannot be replaced. Democrat Rachel Talbot Ross and Republican Carol Taylor are running in the district covering the Parkside and Bayside neighborhoods.
