PORTLAND — Investigators are looking for the cause of a Nov. 14 fire at 165 Brackett St., in the city’s West End.

In a press release Monday, Assistant Fire Chief Keith Gautreau said the fire was reported at 6:34 p.m. and spread quickly through the three-story apartment building across from Reiche Elementary School.

Gautreau said firefighters discovered “a large volume of fire coming from the rear of the building on all three floors,” and put out the blaze in about an hour. The fire caused “moderate” damage to three apartments and “minor” damage to an adjacent single-family home.

No injuries to humans were reported, but Gautreau said a dog died in the third-floor apartment. Fire Department and insurance company investigators were expected to meet Wednesday to gather more information.
