PORTLAND — Workers seeking legal advice about employment rights will be able to get it free at a new weekly legal clinic at the Southern Maine Workers’ Center.
The clinic, operated in partnership with the Maine Volunteer Lawyers Project, will open Thursday, June 7 from 5-7 p.m. and each Thursday during those hours, SMWC Director Drew Christopher Joy said in a May 31 press release.
The SMWC offices are at 56 North St., Suite 100.
“What we heard from workers and ally organizations was that this is something that’s really needed,” Joy said. “We want to make sure all workers have access to information about their rights and the tools to fight back.”
The clinic will offer interpretive services, Joy said, as well as other “communication accommodations.” SMWC staff will also be on hand to provide other information and resources for workers.
