FALMOUTH — The owner of Pom’s Thai restaurants in Portland and South Portland is opening her fourth location, the first north of Portland.

Pom’s Orchid Thai Restaurant & Bar is expected to open at Foreside Place, 202 U.S. Route 1, in October.

The Town Council unanimously approved food and liquor licenses for the restaurant on Monday. Owner Pom Boobphachati told councilors the restaurant will serve authentic Thai food and Thai tapas at the bar.

Boobphachati said she hopes the restaurant will fill a void left in Falmouth after the closing of Lotus, a Japanese and Chinese restaurant in the Falmouth Shopping Center on Route 1, earlier this summer.

Pom’s Orchid will join Boobphachati’s South Portland restaurants – Thai Taste on Cottage Road and Pom’s Thai on Western Avenue – and her Portland restaurant, Pom’s Thai Taste Noodle House on Congress Street.

According to Boobphachati’s business website, she is originally from Bangkok and worked in Thai restaurants in the late 1990s, before opening her own in the early 2000s.

Thai Taste was her first restaurant, followed by Pom’s Thai and Pom’s Thai Taste Noodle House, which opened in 2007.
