FALMOUTH — Police are seeking a suspect in a brazen daylight robbery at the Irving Lil’ Mart Friday morning.

At 8:25 a.m., a clerk left the store and gas station at 264 U.S. Route 1 with money to deposit in a nearby bank. He was confronted in the parking lot by a gun-wielding man who demanded the money, Lt. John Kilbride said.

“He poked (the clerk) with (the gun) and said, ‘Gimme the bank deposit bag,'” Kilbride said.

The suspect – who is described as in his 20s, bald, 5 foot 11 inches, weighing 175 pounds, wearing sunglasses, a black t-shirt and jean shorts – took an undisclosed amount of money and drove off in a black, late-model Nissan Maxima with tinted windows.

The car was described as being particularly shiny and well cared for. The handgun was a revolver, Kilbride said.

The suspect is considered armed and dangerous, the officer added.

“He’s the real deal,” Kilbride said. “He gave the impression that he wasn’t afraid to use (the gun).”

Police haven’t ruled out whether the suspect has knowledge of the store’s operations and staked out the clerk, Kilbride said.

“We don’t know at this point. We’re out looking at everything and we’re looking along those lines,” he said.

Kilbride wouldn’t say whether investigators had access to surveillance footage from the store at the southwest corner of Route 1 and Bucknam Road or other nearby businesses.

A person who answered a reporter’s call at the Lil’ Mart wouldn’t comment on the robbery. A message left with corporate headquarters wasn’t immediately returned.

Police are asking anyone with information to call 781-2300.
