PORTLAND — Police on Wednesday arrested Christopher Johnson, 23, of Portland, in connection with a June 7 stabbing in the Old Port, Assistant Chief Vern Malloch said Thursday.

Johnson was charged with elevated aggravated assault for allegedly stabbing a 22-year-old Portland man multiple times in the area between Fore and Wharf streets.

The victim has been released from Maine Medical Center where he was treated and is expected to make a full recovery, according to Malloch.

Police identified Johnson after interviewing witnesses and reviewing video footage provided by an area bar. Johnson’s photo is not being released pending further investigation.

Johnson is being held in Cumberland County Jail and was scheduled to be arraigned during his first court appearance on Friday.
