PORTLAND — A “dangerously potent” form of heroin is turning up in the city, police warned after four people were treated for heroin overdoses last week.

Since December, 11 people have been treated for heroin overdoses, and two Portland men have died from what was thought to be overdoses, according to a City Hall press release last Friday.

Police said they believe an unusually powerful form of the illegal drug is being trafficked in the city, and are trying to determine the source.

Anyone with information was asked to contact police at 874-8533.
