PORTLAND — Ecomaine is asking the public to nominate individuals or groups by Feb. 4 for its annual eco-Excellence Awards.
The municipally owned recycling and waste disposal non-profit is seeking to recognize any “green activity” that a community member engages in that sets an example or gets others involved. This year, instead of solely recognizing recycling efforts, it has broadened the scope to include any efforts that fall under the “green” umbrella.
Green activities can range from supporting water conservation, reducing packaging, to organic farming. Ecomaine will select one recipient from each one of the 34 communities it serves. Communities include Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland, Falmouth, Freeport, North Yarmouth, Portland, Scarborough, South Portland and Yarmouth.
Entries will be judged by members of the ecomaine recycling committee.
Awards will be presented to the 34 recipients at the awards luncheon in Portland on March 24. The highest award, the 2009 Grand winner, will also be announced at the luncheon.
Entry forms can be found at ecomaine.org or by calling 773-1738.
