Brooks honored by
Jimmy Fund Walk

BOSTON — John Brooks of Falmouth was honored at the Extra Mile Brunch held recently by the Jimmy Fund Walk for his fundraising efforts and 20-year commitment to the Walk.

Brooks is one of 13 walkers who have participated in every Jimmy Fund Walk held since its inception in 1989 and has helped raise more than $6 million.

The annual Walk raises money for cancer and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and is held in Boston along the Boston Marathon route.

Entrepreneur support
program receives funding


PORTLAND — The
Maine Center for Enterprise Development recently received funding from
the Maine Technology Institute to develop an innovative program to
provide training and resources to aspiring Maine entrepreneurs who are
focused on technology.

The goal of the Applied Entrepreneurship Program, called “Top Gun,”
is to teach future entrepreneurs what they need to know to run
successful businesses and provide them with real-world experience.

Collins named Maine
Champion of Alzheimer’s

FALMOUTH
— The Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter, recently selected U.S.
Senator Susan Collins, (R-ME), as the first Maine Champion of
Alzheimer’s.

Collins was honored for her commitment to making
Alzheimer’s a national priority as co-chair of the Congressional Task
Force on Alzheimer’s Disease.

She was presented with the award at a recent ceremony hosted by
Horace A. Hildreth, Jr., chairman of Diversified Communications and
Karen Stram, former president of the Alzheimer’s Association, Maine
Chapter.

Amato’s opens in
Freeport Village

FREEPORT— On Thursday, July 2, Amato’s celebrated the grand opening of their new store, located at 114 Main St. in Freeport.

The Main Street store will be Amato’s 38th store in New England, with seating for up to 34 customers, and will offer take out and catering.

Amato’s of Freeport will be managed by Krista Johnson.

nine firms nationally to receive the Intern Development Program Firm
Award from The American Institute of Architects at its 2009 AIA
annual convention held in San Francisco.

Lauren Grousd, coordinator of of Portland’s “Real Life. Real Talk
Project,” of Planned Parenthood of Northern New England, received PPNNE’s
2009 David Wagner Young Leader Award.

The Martin Dibner Memorial Fellowship in poetry was awarded to Tanya Whiton of Portland by the Maine Community Foundation.

Burgess Advertising & Marketing of Portland won five
Lamplighter Awards for excellence in marketing at the New England
Society for Healthcare Communications’ annual spring conference.

The
American Society of Mechanical Engineers selected ecomaine’s
waste-to-energy plant as the Small Combustion Facility of the Year.

Sophie Payson, a social worker for the Portland High School
Alternative Program, received the 2009 Commissioner’s Recognition Award
at a recent ceremony honoring at-risk youth educators. The award was
presented by the education commissioner, Sue Gendron, Governor John
Baldacci and Mark Deblois, chair of the truancy, dropout, and
alternative education advisory committee.

Preti Flaherty attorney Tim Bryant of Falmouth was one of 125
attorneys nationwide named “Legal Eagles” by Franchise Times magazine.

Greg
Dugal, executive director of the Freeport-based Maine Innkeeper’s
Association, received the Maine Tourism Association’s 2009 Hall of Fame
Award.
