PORTLAND — The Maine Polar Dip will take place at noon on Saturday, Feb. 7, at the East End Beach to benefit Camp Sunshine, a resort for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.
The goal is to raise $15,000 so 10 families sick children can have free, week-long stays at the Sebago Lake resort, the only of its kind in the nation.
Participants can register online at FreezinforaReason.com or in person the day of the event. Each participant must raise a minimum of $100 in pledges and will receive a free “Freezin for a Reason” long sleeve T-shirt. The top fundraiser will have a choice of a Nikon Coolpix S51 digital camera, Nintendo Wii or Garmin Nuvi 200 GPS unit.
For those who do not want to take the full plunge, there will be a Chicken Dip, where participants must raise at least $100, but are only required to get their feet wet.
