SOUTH PORTLAND — Although boating may be the farthest thing from people’s minds during the winter, the U.S. Coast Guard is encouraging novice and expert boaters alike to participate in one of three boating courses at Southern Maine Community College.
The Casco Bay Flotilla of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, based in South Portland, will be offering two courses for beginners starting Jan. 14 at 7 p.m.: Boating Skills and Seamanship, and Sailing Skills and Seamanship.
An advanced coastal navigation course, starting Jan. 13 at 7 p.m, is being offered to those who have completed the basic skills course.
