PORTLAND —  A 36-year-old Cumberland County sheriff’s deputy was arrested Thursday night for allegedly operating under the influence and driving to endanger.
Sgt. Charles Ryder, of Falmouth, was arrested by Maine State Police after the agency received several reports of a sports utility vehicle traveling south in the northbound lane of Interstate 295 between Falmouth and Portland. Police caught up to Ryder, who works as a Cumberland County Jail corrections officer, near Franklin Arterial in Portland at around 11:20 p.m.
Ryder posted $5,000 unsecured bail last Friday and is on administrative leave pending an investigation.
