FREEPORT — A Pittsfield man was arrested Monday after allegedly driving almost 100 mph on Interstate 295 while he was drunk.

Joel W. Lallier, 27, was driving on I-295 at about 2:45 a.m. when he passed Officer Brandon Paxton at about 86 mph, Police Chief Gerald Schofield said Tuesday.

Paxton pursued Lallier with his siren off until Lallier allegedly reached speeds of 98 mph, Schofield said. Paxton then followed him about a mile with his sirens on before Lallier pulled over, the chief said.

Lallier was arrested and charged with operating under the influence and criminal speeding more than 30 mph over the speed limit.
