PORTLAND — Phyllis Margaret Hatch, 95, of Portland, died peacefully on July 23.

She was born in Portland on July 29, 1918, to George and Mary (McGahey) Crangle. She attended local schools.

In her younger years, Hatch and her husband toured the country as part of a vaudeville act that worked with the likes of legendary actor Burt Lancaster. Her husband and she used “Don and Betty Phillips” as stage names.

The couple eventually settled back in Maine and began a family. Hatch was a devoted mother and homemaker. She continued to be active in local theater, and was an avid Celtics and Patriots fan.

Hatch was predeceased by her husband, Phillip Hatch Sr., in 1971, and her siblings, Helen and James.

Surviving are her children, Phillip Hatch Jr., of Portland, Lewis Hatch, of Gorham, Margery Hatch, of Auburn, Mary Lou Moore, of Wilmington, New York, and Kenneth Hatch and his wife, Cynthia, of Fort Myers, Florida. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Visitation and a funeral were held at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, with burial following at Evergreen Cemetery in Portland.
