HARPSWELL — Phillip Henry Bibber, 78, of Harpswell, died Saturday at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick following a short illness.

Born April 8, 1934, in Brunswick to Linwood and Ruth Bibber, he attended Harpswell schools until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 17.

Bibber served proudly in the Navy for 22 years, a veteran of both the Korean and the Vietnam wars. Following his retirement from military service, he worked at the Harpswell Neck Fuel Depot for 17 years. 

Bibber married his wife of 56 years, Carol Morrell, in 1956. 

He was an antique auto enthusiast and enjoyed attending car shows and showing his antique cars. He also acted as a chauffeur to dignitaries in the Harpswell Annual Memorial Day Parade.

Bibber is predeceased by his brother Richard “Dick” Bibber. He is survived by his wife, Carol Bibber of Harpswell, son Gerald Bibber of Harpswell, daughter Carolyn Costello and her husband Tony Costello of Lisbon, daughter Susan Taylor and her husband Don Taylor of Richmond, son James Bibber of Harpswell, as well as five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Brackett Funeral Home in Brunswick with the Rev. James Henry officiating. A reception will follow at the Merriconeag Grange Hall, 529 Harpswell Neck Road, Harpswell.
