PORTLAND — The Portland Housing Authority is the largest recipient of $440,000 in combined federal housing grants announced Nov. 30 by U.S. Sens. Susan Collins, R-Maine, and Angus King, an independent.
The PHA was awarded $72,000 in U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Family Self-Sufficiency Program funds. The money will be used to help residents with education and job training, said Annie Clark, spokeswoman for King and Collins.
Housing authorities in Augusta, Bangor, Brewer, Lewiston, Old Town and Westbrook, as well as the city of Caribou and the Maine State Housing Authority, were also awarded grants.
