SEATTLE, Wash. — Peter Joseph Roane, 58, of 12720 Riviera Place, died Dec. 2.

He was born in Bathon  June 5, 1957, a son of Priscilla L. (Brown) Roane and Paul M. Roane Sr. He graduated from Morse High School in 1976 and Central Maine Community College with a degree in electromechanical technology in 1981. Roane also completed the Bath Iron Works Apprentice Program in 1985.

Roane worked at Bath Iron Works for 21 years, starting as an electrician in the maintenance department. He then worked as a designer in the engineering department before moving back to the maintenance department as chief planner. After BIW, Roane worked at the Home Depot in Topsham until February 2006, when he was forced to leave due to illness.

In his spare time Roane loved working on race cars. Starting in 1979, he raced his cars at auto crosses with the Cumberland Motor Club and competed in ice racing with New Meadows Ice Racing Association. Between races he found time to build two homes, one in 1985 in Brunswick and the second in 1991 in West Bath.

He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Francis J. Roane.

Surviving are a cousin, Teresa Weiss, of Seattle; his close friend, Wynn Cowley, of Kennebunkport; four brothers, Thomas A. Roane, of Sabattus, Stephen A. Roane, Paul M. Roane Jr. and George Roane, of Lewiston; a sister, Kathie Davis, of Auburn; six nieces, Mollie and Jenna, of Brunswick,  Tiffany Back, of Boston, Kristina Bradigan, of Lewisburg, Pennsylvania and Lisa and Alan, of Ashtabula, Ohio.

At Roane’s request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to eHope Foundation, P.O. Box 7794, Portland, ME 04112, or the ALS Association of Northern New England, The Concord Center, P.O. Box 314, Concord, NH 03301.
