SOUTH PORTLAND — Peter Allan Reynolds Sr., 76, of South Portland, died at his home Jan. 23, after a brief illness. He was born Oct. 24, 1939, in Westbrook, the son of Advah H. Reynolds and Audrey A. Reynolds.

Reynolds attended Deering High School, where he was president of the Student Council. He received the Outstanding Student Athlete Award, was a star player in football and track, and also played basketball and baseball. He graduated in 1958. When he was younger, Reynolds also achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.

While serving in the Coast Guard, Reynolds married his high school sweetheart, Evelyn McKenney. He owned his own HVAC company for eight years and, after earning his associate’s degree in business from Westbrook College, Reynolds had managerial roles at several other companies.

Reynolds served as the president of the South Portland branches of the Jaycees, the Lions Club and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He also served as state director of the Jaycees and a JCI Senator.

Reynolds spent many hours attending various dance recitals, concerts and sporting events for his children and grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents and his brothers, Gary, Advah and Jack.

Reynolds is survived by his wife of nearly 57 years; four sons, Peter, of Findlay, Ohio, Michael, of Slidell, Louisiana, Paul; of Gorham, and Douglas, of Gray; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Linda Jenness, of New Mexico.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of Southern Maine for their care and compassion.

A funeral service was held Jan. 28 at Hobbs Funeral Home in South Portland, followed by interment at Brooklawn Memorial.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for a donation in Reynold’s name to the charity of one’s choice.
