SCARBOROUGH — The Scarborough Public Library is launching its annual Summer Reading Program on Thursday, June 24, at 3 p.m. with a free public performance of a favorite children’s tale, “Jack and the Beanstock and the Two-Headed Ogre.”
The play is being performed by the Little Red Wagon, a theater troupe of the University of New England’s Theater & Dance Department. The Little Red Wagon is the longest running nonprofit children’s theater tour in the U.S. and performs at nearly 70 locations in New England each summer.
Children from pre-kindergarten through high school can register to participate in this year’s reading game, based on the theme “Make a Splash @ the Library!” starting Monday, June 21.
The annual book sale sponsored by the Library Friends is scheduled for Friday, June 18, through Sunday, June 20. Donations of gently used books may be left in the library lobby. No comics, periodicals, text books, or encyclopedias. To learn more about The Friends visit scarboroughcrossroads.org/libraryfriends.
The library also has more than 20 programs and special events planned for all ages. A calendar of events can be downloaded from the Youth page of the library website at library.scarborough.me.us.
