Robyn Ostrander, M.D., has joined the Department of Psychiatry at Maine Medical Center as the medical director for the division of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. In her new role, Ostrander is also serving as chairwoman of the Glickman Family Center for Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at Spring Harbor Hospital.

Maine Medical Center announced that four new physicians have joined the Department of Emergency Medicine:

Michael Bohanske, M.D., received his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine and completed his residency at University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he served as chief resident in the Department of Emergency Medicine. He also completed a fellowship in emergency medical services in Cincinnati.

Janessa Leger, M.D., received her medical degree from Tufts University and completed her residency at MMC, where she served as chief resident in emergency medicine.

Lauren Wendell, M.D., received her medical degree from University of Vermont and completed her residency at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where she was a clinical assistant professor.

Christina Wilson, M.D., received her medical degree from University of Virginia School of Medicine. She completed her residency at Brigham and Women’s/Massachusetts General Hospital Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency program.

Dr. Elizabeth Sperry of Falmouth was recently named to the board of directors of the Maine Veterinary Medical Association.  Sperry, who has been practicing at the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland since 2013, brings a special expertise in Shelter Medicine.  She graduated from Bowdoin College in 1993 and from Tufts School of Veterinary Medicine in 2001 and moved to Maine in 2010.

Food for thought

TIQA recently welcomed Derek Federico in the role of chef de cuisine. Federico will manage the kitchen and report directly to Executive Chef Bo Byrne. Federico, of Portland, worked as sous chef at 555 and as executive sous chef for David’s KPT.

Fork Food Lab, Top Gun Prep 2013 graduate Neil Spillane’s brainchild, will host a grand opening celebration 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27 on Parris Street in Portland’s Bayside neighborhood. The shared commercial kitchen and tasting room, which opened Aug. 1, offers local foodiepreneurs options for both full-time and part-time access to commercial kitchen facilities. Fork offers patrons prep tables, access to equipment, cold/dry storage, and all of the paper goods and sanitation supplies foodiepreneurs need to bring their products to market.

Recognition

Norway Savings Bank was recently named one of 2016’s Best Places to Work in Maine and nationally recognized as one of the Best Banks to Work For. The bank, which will be honored at an awards ceremony Oct. 4, was featured in the August  issue of American Banker Magazine as one of the 60 banks to achieve “best bank” status.

Eaton Peabody attorney Seth W. Brewster was named Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers in America in the litigation-antitrust category. In addition, 19 other lawyers in the firm were recognized by Best Lawyers in America as tops in their respective areas of expertise.

All four partners at Petruccelli, Martin & Haddow in Portland were recognized by Best Lawyers in America: Gerald F. Petruccelli, Michael K. Martin, James B. Haddow and Bruce A. McGlauflin.

News from nonprofits

The Brunswick Rotary Club recently showed their commitment to “service above self” with the donation of a backyard play set to Tedford Housing’s emergency family shelter in Brunswick. The donation was made possible through a grant from The Rotary Foundation and a discount from Lowe’s in Brunswick. Several Rotary Club volunteers erected the play set over the course of a weekend with the help of family shelter resident.

New Ventures

Brackett Street Veterinary Clinic, a full service animal hospital in Portland, is building a second location in the North Deering area. Brackett West Veterinary Clinic, slated to open this fall, will be located at Happy Tails dog daycare.

Portland-based Elite Airways announced new scheduled jet service, with twice- weekly nonstops Thursday and Sunday between Portland Jetport and Sarasota-Bradenton on the Gulf Coast of Florida starting Nov. 17.

Hires, promotions, appointments

NL Partners, an advertising agency based in Portland, has hired Georgia Dixon as assistant account executive. Dixon was previously the office administrator for Legacy Properties Sotheby’s International Realty.

Jack Woodcock, of Cumberland, has joined Bernstein Shur as an associate in the firm’s Portland office in the Litigation Practice Group, where he will focus on commercial litigation and dispute resolution. Previously, Woodcock worked as a trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice, where he defended the United States in several civil suits of national importance, including two separate bellwether cases involving Hurricane Katrina’s flooding of New Orleans. In related news, labor and employment attorney Sara Hellstedt of North Yarmouth has also joined the Portland law office.
