Davis family honored by Mercy, Waynflete

Like father, like daughter.

Love of community, volunteerism and philanthropy were clearly handed down from Dr. Harry E. Davis to his daughter, Patricia “Pat” Davis Klingenstein, as both were honored recently by separate southern Maine institutions for their selfless contributions to their communities.

Northern Light Mercy Hospital in Portland held a ceremony May 22 to unveil an exhibit and statue honoring the late Dr. Davis, Mercy’s first and longtime chairman of pediatrics.

The permanent display in the hospital’s Fore River lobby chronicles Davis’ contributions to his patients, Mercy Hospital and the greater Portland community. The historical presentation highlights the doctor’s life and his relationship with the Sisters of Mercy, particularly his friendship with the hospital’s longtime administrator, Sister Annunciata Quigley.

Waynflete school announced on May 29 that Klingenstein, Class of 1947, has been named the first recipient of the school’s Alumni Leadership Award in recognition of her work as an education advocate, devoted community leader, volunteer and philanthropist. The Klingenstein Award was conceived by Waynflete’s Board of Trustees as a way to celebrate alumni who live as responsible and caring participants in the world.
