Systems Engineering, an IT strategy integrator and managed IT services provider  based in Portland, will join Apple Consultants Network. As an Apple Consultants Network partner, Systems Engineering can now deliver Mac OS technology support services, in addition to its existing enterprise IT solutions, and meet the needs of Northern New England companies currently juggling mixed operating systems environments, a growing trend for today’s businesses.

U.S. News & World Report has named Maine Medical Center a Best Regional Hospital and the best hospital in Maine for the fourth year in a row. In its 2016-17 survey of U.S. hospitals, it also recognized MMC as one of only 63 out of more than 4,500 hospitals in the nation – and the only one in Maine – to be rated high-performing across the board in nine procedures and conditions, including: abdominal aortic aneurysm repair; aortic valve surgery; colon cancer surgery;  COPD; heart bypass surgery; heart failure; hip replacement; knee replacement; and lung cancer surgery.

Inc. magazine listed TideSmart Global LLC of Falmouth on its 35th annual Inc. 5000, the most prestigious ranking of the nation’s fastest-growing private companies. The list represents a unique look at independent small businesses. Companies such as Microsoft, Dell, Domino’s Pizza and many other well-known names gained their first national exposure as honorees of the Inc. 5000. Now in its 13th year, TideSmart ranked 2,971 nationally and sixth in Maine with a three-year growth rate of 115 percent.

Earlier this month at the Maine State Florists Association’s summer show, Jason Parent of Fiddleheads in Cape Elizabeth won three design awards for his one-of-a-kind floral creations in the botanical “purse” and “ring” contest. Parent took home two first-place awards and the Judge’s Choice award. He joined the Fiddleheads team this spring.

Assistant House Majority Leader Sara Gideon was named an Environmental Champion by Maine Conservation Voters for her leadership on a bipartisan solar measure. Gideon, D-Freeport, played a pivotal role in advancing the bill, LD 1649, to create a comprehensive solar policy for the state.

Hires, promotions, appointments

The congregation of the Bath Swedenborgian Church at Winter and Middle streets announced the Rev. Dr. Reuben P. Bell has accepted the call to serve as their new pastor. Bell’s first service as the congregation’s full-time pastor will be Sunday, Sept. 11.

John R. Nelson, chief financial officer of engineering consulting firm Wright-Pierce, was appointed vice chairman and treasurer of the American Council of Engineering Companies’ Executive Committee for the 2016-18 term at its annual convention and legislative summit held in Washington, D.C.

Portside Real Estate Group, with offices in Falmouth and Portland, recently hired Nikki Petersen as their finance manager.

Robert Emple has joined Morgan Stanley’s Wealth Management office in Portland at 100 Middle St. as a first vice president, financial advisor.

Pauline Karen Mills, M.D., has joined the staff of Freeport Pediatrics, a Central Maine Medical Group practice located in Freeport.

Maureen E. Keegan has re-joined Curtis Thaxter LLC as of-counsel, practicing in the areas of estate planning, estate and trust administration, family business transactions and taxation.

Greater Portland Health, a community nonprofit that provides comprehensive primary care services to more than 6,600 patients in the Portland area, recently hired nurse practitioner Jennifer Rogers to provide care for patients living with HIV and other infectious diseases, beginning this fall.

Jane Lafleur,  former executive director of Friends of Midcoast Maine, has  accepted a new position as senior consultant with Lift 360 in Portland.
