Trio of Iris Network employees earn national awards

Three Iris Network employees won awards at the Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired  International Conference held recently in Reno, Nevada.

Amber Mooney, of South Portland, was named the winner of the Alice Raftary Rising Star Award, presented to an individual who demonstrates the potential for exceptional leadership and is expected to provide a unique and lasting contribution to the field of Vision Rehabilitation Therapy.

In addition, Laura Vittorioso of Kennebunk won the Bruce McKenzie Award for Lifetime Achievement. The Susan and Paul Ponchillia VRT Publication Award was given to Steve Kelley, also of Kennebunk. The award honors Vision Rehabilitation Therapist Division members whose publication contributes highly to the field of Vision Rehabilitation Therapy.

“We are all very proud and honored to have each of you on The Iris Network staff and offer our sincerest congratulations,” said David Barnwell, who presented the awards.

Hires, promotions, appointments

Elyse Pomeroy is the new operations manager at Maine’s largest commercial real estate firm, CBRE | The Boulos Company. She will have a key role in day-to-day operations, review procedures and policies, and help implement new systems and processes. She will also ensure regulatory compliance and maintain and enhance the company’s marketing presence. Pomeroy was most recently the customer onboarding manager-corporate payments at WEX. 

Town & Country Federal Credit Union announced the election of officers to the board of directors for 2018-19 at the credit union’s 65th annual meeting. Jane Torres, membership director for Portland Country Club, continues as chairwoman. Josh Fifield, with Clark Insurance, was named vice chairman, and Anne Connolly of Benefits Concepts to Completion was elected secretary. Paul Chamberlain, former CFO with Alpha One, will serve as treasurer.

Corrie Anderson, DO, has joined All About Women, a specialty practice of Mercy Hospital that provides gynecologic and obstetric care. She received her medical degree from the University of New England’s College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Rochester in New York. Anderson became interested in medicine while accompanying her grandparents on medical missions to Guatemala as a teenager.

Amanda Brownell, MD, is now a team member in the Spurwink Child Abuse Program. Brownell is a child abuse pediatrician, having completed her pediatric residency at Maine Medical Center in 2015. She also completed a fellowship in child abuse pediatrics at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.

Baker Newman Noyes accounting and consulting firms announced Dayton Benway was chosen to succeed Carl Chatto as managing principal, effective Jan. 1. The firm also Anna Fincke is the new Chief Operating Officer and Darren Hurlburt is the firm’s first Chief Financial Officer. In addition, Daniel Gayer, of Cape Elizabeth, was promoted to senior manager for tax practice and Greg Knight, of Portland, was promoted to manager in the health care consulting practice. 

Recognition

U.S. News & World Report has named Maine Medical Center as a Best Regional Hospital for the sixth consecutive year, as well as the best hospital in Maine for 2018-19. MMC also was recognized as “high performing” in the specialty of urology and in eight common procedures and conditions.

For the fourth year in a row, the University of New England has been featured in the Princeton Review’s Best 384 Colleges guide. The publication showcases the top 13 percent of four-year colleges and universities in the country. It rates institutions of higher education in eight categories, including academics, admissions, quality of life, financial aid and environmental friendliness.

Mark Harrington of Riley Insurance in Brunswick was honored by Certified Risk Manager for leadership and professionalism in the field of risk management. Harrington was awarded a certificate of achievement recognizing 10 consecutive year of affiliation with Certified Risk Managers.

BerryDunn was ranked 72 of 100 accounting firms in the country by Inside Public Accounting. BerryDunn has made the list for the eighth year in a row for accounting firms with the highest net revenue in the country.

Maine state Rep. Teresa S. Pierce, D-Falmouth, is among 48 state leaders from across the country selected to participate in The Council of State Governments’ 2018 Henry Toll Fellowship, the nation’s premier leadership development program for state government officials.

Stacey L. Chenevert, VP of Retail Services at Brunswick-based Atlantic Federal Credit Union, has been designated a Certified Credit Union Executive as a member of the graduating class of CUNA Management School in Madison, Wisconsin.

New Ventures

Lolli & Pops, known for artisan chocolates, candies and confections, opened its first Maine location in the Maine Mall on Aug. 3. Lolli and Pops has opened its doors at 364 Maine Mall Road, South Portland and will be open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
