Raffle for sculpture
to benefit Cape land trust

CAPE ELIZABETH — The Cape Elizabeth Land Trust is selling raffle tickets for a Wendy Klemperer sculpture, entitled ‘DEER,’ in conjunction with its annual Paint for Preservation event to be held July 18. 
 
Tickets for the raffle are $25 each or 5 tickets for $100 and are available at the CELT office or online at capelandtrust.org.

Proceeds from the raffle will support the Cape Elizabeth Land Trust’s Saving Cape’s Great Places initiative to preserve local strategic conservation lands.

The sculpture is available for viewing at the CELT office at 330 Ocean House Road or online.
 
The drawing will be held July 18.

Dana earns award for
legal aid advocacy

WASHINGTON, D.C., — Howard H. Dana was recognized by the American Bar Association as one of two  winners of its ABA Day 2010 Grassroots Award.

Dana is a retired Maine Supreme Judicial Court associate justice who now serves as counsel in the Portland office of Verrill Dana.

A longtime advocate for legal aid funding, he has presented before Congress on the need for better funding of Legal Services Corporation and the Legal Services Benefit Act.

Commercial energy
grants available

 
AUGUSTA — Efficiency Maine, a program of the Maine Public Utilities Commission, is currently accepting grant applications for energy-related projects through its Commercial Grant Program.

Industrial, commercial, municipal and non-profit organizations can apply for a grant up to $50,000 for projects that focus on energy savings, job creation and/or retention, and sustainable economic impact.
 
Applicants must have matching funds available that equal or exceed the amount of grant funding requested. The Commercial Grant Program also generates additional private investment funds.

Marasco named USM
Distinguished Professor

PORTLAND — Photographer Rose Marasco of Portland, a professor of art, was recognized as a USM Distinguished Professor.

The appointment is the third one given out in the history of the university, and was awarded in recognition of her exceptional scholarship and impact on both a local and national level in the field of photography and photography education.

As a full-time member of the art faculty at USM since 1987 and currently the sole tenure-track faculty member in photography, she has maintained high academic standards and maintains the accreditation of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.
 
Professor Marasco was nominated by former Provost Mark Lapping, USM’s first Distinguished Professor.

Her professional career has spanned three decades, and has produced and exhibited her work in group and solo exhibitions around the country, and has been regularly selected as a visiting artist, curator and juror for

She has also established herself within the Portland creative community, having served on the city’s Creative Economy Steering Committee and as a founding member and treasurer of Portland Artists Dwellings and Studios.

Jim Tasse of Cape Elizabeth has been appointed education director of the Bicycle Coalition of Maine. An avid cyclist, Tasse is a member of MaineDOT’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Council, and has coordinated bicycle-pedestrian committees in Falmouth, Yarmouth and Freeport.

Peggy Stratton
has joined the administration at Parkview Adventist Medical Center as vice president of clinical services and Chief Nursing Officer. Prior to being hired, Stratton served as an executive consultant to the hospital.
