Hannaford implements
clean air program

SCARBOROUGH — Hannaford Trucking Company has partnered with Florida-based Fleet Advantage, a truck fleet leasing and information technology service provider, to implement The Clean Air Program.

The goal is to establish an environmentally and economically sustainable program for the Hannaford tractor fleet that reduces harmful emissions, fuel usage and costly maintenance.

Using new technology and methodologies designed by Fleet Advantage, Hannaford saved more than 137,000 gallons of diesel fuel in 2010 and anticipates reducing fuel usage by nearly 460,000 total gallons by 2014, with a projected savings of more than $1.5 million.


The Cumberland County Commissioners have recently selected three trustees to serve three-year terms on the Cumberland County Civic Center Board of Trustees. Neal Pratt of Scarborough and Gary Plummer of Windham have been reappointed and Joe Bruno of Raymond was newly appointed as a trustee.  The 2011 Cumberland County Civic Center Board of Trustees are Fred Forsley, John Menario, Richard Ranaghan, Linda Boudreau, Beth Edmonds, William Troubh, Neal Pratt, Gary Plummer, and Joe Bruno.

The Maine Democratic State Committee recently elected Benjamin K. Grant of Portland as chairman of the Maine Democratic Party. Grant is an attorney at McTeague Higbee in Topsham where he practices labor and employment law.

The Maine Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council has named the following members to its board of directors: Tom “Doc” Brudzinski, owner and director of ToME, LLC, a design/idea studio on Orr?s Island; Dr. Keith Collins, green building advocate; Ian Houseal, sustainability coordinator for the city of Portland; Doug Hunter, president of The Hunter Group, Inc.; Steve Konstantino, owner and founder of Maine Green Building Supply in Portland; Naomi Mermin, principal at Naomi Mermin Consulting, a healthy housing and environmental strategy firm; and John Robinson, commercial real estate broker at Magnusson Balfour in Portland.
At the 17th annual meeting of the Southern Midcoast Maine Chamber, newly elected officers and directors were named for 2011. Officers of the board are Ed Kenyon of Bath Iron Works, chairman; Don Spann of RE/MAX Riverside, first vice chair;

Cathy Barter of Key Bank, second vice chair; Gail Eaton of Downeast Energy, treasurer; and Art Lamothe, of Law Offices of Arthur J. Lamothe, secretary. Elected for three year terms on the 2011 SMMC Board of Directors are Gail Eaton of Downeast Energy, Joel Allumbaugh of National Worksite Benefit Group, Jim Bouchard of Northern Chi and Lois Skillings of Mid Coast Health Services. The Southern Midcoast Maine Chamber serves businesses and organizations in 16 communities, including Arrowsic, Bath, Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, Brunswick, Dresden, Edgecomb, Georgetown, Harpswell, Phippsburg, Richmond, Topsham, West  Bath, Westport Island, Wiscasset, and Woolwich.

Drew Anderson of Portland, attorney and director at Portland law firm, Murray, Plumb & Murray, was recently elected to the board of directors of the Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project. ILAP provides free and low-cost immigration information and legal assistance to low-income Maine residents.

John M.R. Paterson of Freeport, shareholder and trial attorney at Bernstein Shur law firm, has recently been elected president of the Maine Civil Liberties Union.  

Bruce Wagner, president and owner of Traverse CEO, and Brian Petrovek, managing owner of the Portland Pirates, will be serving as co-chairmen of the 2011 Southern Maine Heart Walk, a fundraiser for the American Heart Association. A fundraising goal of $335,000 has been set for the May 15 Back Cove walk to support the AHA’s research, education, and advocacy efforts.

of Falmouth was recently elected to the American Library Association’s executive board.  

Human Resources Association of Southern Maine recently announced its new board of directors for 2011. Deborah L. Whitworth, managing director of Lebel & Harriman LLP, was named president; Lisa A. B. Noonan of Portland, director of human resources at The Park Danforth, will serve as president-elect; Robert Smith, human resource manager at D&G Machine Products in Westbrook, was re-elected as treasurer; and Catharine MacLaren, chief operating officer of Workforce Performance Solutions, is the newly elected secretary.

Rachel Williams-Clifford of Cumberland Foreside and Terry Brown of Yarmouth, founding partner at GMEDIA LLC, have joined the board of directors of The Cromwell Center for Disabilities Awareness.

Four members have been elected to the board of directors of the Orr’s and Bailey Islands Fire Department. Newly elected board members are Michael Helfgott of Bailey Island and Walter Johnson, Betsy Leland and Steve Normand, all of Orr’s Island. Richard Regan of Great Island was re-elected to the board. Officers of the board are Andy Paulhus of Great Island, president; Maureen Anthoine-Orlandini of Great Island, vice president; and Laurie Blain of Bailey Island, secretary; Ann Gulesian of Orr’s Island, treasurer. Bill Beazley of Orr’s Island was reappointed fire chief and Ed Sparks of Bailey Island was reappointed rescue captain. Wes Haynes was re-elected as assistant fire chief, Walter Johnson as apparatus captain, and Marshall Judkins as building captain. Cindy Watson was newly elected as training captain.
