SOUTH PORTLAND — Town & Country Federal Credit Union has donated a total of $25,000 to eight local nonprofit organizations through its Better Neighbor Fund charitable giving campaign.  

A total of 36 charitable organizations were nominated to receive a donation from the Better Neighbor Fund. Winners were selected by votes tallied on Town & Country’s Facebook page.  

The following three organizations each received a $5,000 grant: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Maine, for general program support; The Center For Grieving Children, for volunteer training program; and The Cancer Community Center, for general program support.

Five organizations received $2,000 grants each from the credit union. They are Make a Wish Foundation of Maine, for granting a child’s wish; Family Crisis Services, for the young adult abuse prevention program; Stone Soup Food Pantry, for general operating and food expenses; Sexual Assault Response Services of Southern Maine, for its Chocolate Lovers’ Fling fundraiser event; and Wayside Food Programs, for supplemental community meals.

Town & Country has plans to offer another $25,000 to local charitable groups through its Better Neighbor Fund later this year.

L.L.Bean CEO earns
global sales award

L.L.Bean’s president and CEO Chris McCormick was named the Global Sales Leader of the Year at the fifth annual Stevie Awards for Sales and Customer Service held recently in Miami Beach, Fla.

More than 800 entries were submitted for the Stevie Awards from organizations of all sizes and industries.

Other companies to receive Stevie Awards include Apple, Overstock.com, Rosetta Stone, T-Mobile and Zappos.com.


New Hires, Promotions

Gorham Savings Bank has promoted Sue E. Strout to senior business officer at its West Falmouth location. Strout joined the bank in May 2010 and most recently held the position of core deposit development officer.

Christopher Kelley
from Cape Elizabeth was recently sworn in to the Portland Police Department, becoming the 123rd police officer on the roster. Kelley graduated from Salve Regina University with a bachelor’s degree in administration of justice.

Tilson Technology Management, an information technology project management company in Portland, has recently hired Steven Foskett and Laurie DeLeo as senior consultants; Kim Shelley as a senior developer; Ginny Robideau as a consultant; and Emma Lishness as manager of marketing and communications.

Berry, Dunn, McNeil & Parker, certified public accounting and management consulting firm has made the following three new hires in its Portland tax practice group; Jonathon Ireland of Scarborough, tax specialist; John A. Guarnotta of Portland, tax manager; and Jennifer Berry of Gray, tax specialist. Adam Lomas of Portland has been hired as staff accountant in the financial services practice group; Tyson O’Keefe of Portland was hired as a PC support specialist in the IT department; and Sarah Castro of Portland was hired as a marketing data coordinator.

Attorney Edward Demetriou of Falmouth has joined law firm Furman Gregory Deptula as principal. Demetriou will practice general corporate law with a focus on private investment funds based in the firm’s new office in Biddeford.

TD Bank has promoted William Schad of North Yarmouth to senior commercial loan officer in commercial lending in Portland. Schad joined TD Bank in 1997 and most recently served as a commercial loan officer. Shaun McIntyre of Scarborough has been promoted to vice president, municipal lending, in the government banking division in Portland. McIntyre joined TD Bank in 2006 and previously has served as an assistant vice president, sales and service specialist and a government banking specialist.

South Portland-based Wright Express Corporation has hired Gareth Gumbley as executive vice president, Wright Express International.

The Portland Museum of Art has promoted Erin Damon from curatorial coordinator to the position of assistant registrar.

New Ventures

Six state-wide organizations have recently formed a new partnership, the Maine Hunger Initiative, to address the rise of food insecurity in Maine. Members of the initiative are AARP of Maine, Maine Center for Economic Policy, Maine Council of Churches, Maine Equal Justice Partners, Muskie School of Public Service and Preble Street. The initiative is bringing together service providers, advocates, policy specialists, the faith community and people using emergency food services to work with policymakers to advance social and economic justice and security for Maine people.

Consulting meteorologists team, AtmosForecast of Portland, has recently expanded and is now providing meteorological guidance for Iberdrola USA in New York. Atmosforecast’s local team is managed by Paul Cousins of Falmouth.

Bangor Savings Bank has recently opened its third branch in Portland on Allen Avenue in the North Deering neighborhood. The bank is slated to open its fourth branch in the greater Portland area later this month on U.S. Route 1 in Falmouth.
