NORTH YARMOUTH — The North Yarmouth Events Committee is seeking nominations for the  2010 North Yarmouth Distinguished Citizen Award.  
 
Nominations for individuals who have served the community in a volunteer capacity are due by July 15. The winner will be announced at the North Yarmouth Fun Day on Aug. 28.

Local residents honored
in Remember ME exhibit

AUGUSTA — The Maine Health Care Association recently honored the accomplishments of 36 people living in long term care facilities throughout the state at the eighth annual ceremony and photography exhibit, “Remember ME.”

The exhibit, which features black and white photographs and biographical information, honors the community contributions of individuals who now are elderly or disabled and living in nursing homes and assisted living facilities in Maine.

Area residents featured in the Remember ME exhibit are Clayton Coffin of Sedgewood Commons, Falmouth, for his contributions to small business and his national and international ministry; Virginia Hartwell of the Barron Center, Portland, for ministry to children as a puppeteer and helping develop one of the first television stations in Ecuador; John P. Malick of Seaside Health Care, Portland, for service during World War II that earned him a Purple Heart; Barbara O’Connell Gill of South Portland Nursing Home, South Portland, for contributions to health and education during her 16-year career in public service as a Maine lawmaker; and Albert Horwath of Village Crossings, Cape Elizabeth, for his contributions to aviation and the SAAB company throughout his engineering career.

New Hires, Promotions

Legacy Publishing Company has added Rick Fox of Scarborough to the media team as a national media buyer and has hired David Sullivan of Falmouth as the new art director.

Vreeland Marketing & Design of Yarmouth has recently promoted three senior staff members. Rich Davies of Yarmouth has been named to the position of vice president, web; Katherine Gallant of Yarmouth has been named vice president, operations; and Rebecca Morse of Falmouth has been named vice president, creative.

Maine National Guard soldier Kerry J. Boese of South Portland was promoted to the rank 1st Lieutenant at a recent  ceremony at Camp Keyes, Augusta.

Pam Bonnvie of Falmouth has joined Keller Williams Realty in Portland as a licensed real estate agent.

Portland-based Pierce Atwood LLP has hired Jane Dobrovolny of Scarborough as a benefits specialist in the firm’s human resources department.

Nathaniel Cram
of Portland has joined Scott Simons Architects LLC as an architectural designer. Cram was previously employed by Atkin Olshin Schade Architects in Santa Fe, N.M.
 
Denise Saaf of Portland has been hired by Planet Dog as a marketing manager, responsible for the company’s marketing needs in its wholesale business, web presence, and retail store located in Portland.

Robert Jackson
of Portland has joined Seacoast Law in Westbrook as a general practice attorney, with a concentration in corporate business law, civil litigation and criminal defense.

Drummond Woodsum has hired George Royle V of Portland, formerly of New York City, as a member of the trial services group, concentrating in complex business and insolvency-related disputes, appeals, and criminal matters.

Brunswick-based Belle Fete Events & Catering has hired  Charles Carter as the executive chef responsible for directing the culinary department.

Laura H. White
of Portland has joined the Saco-based law firm Smith, Elliott, Smith & Garmey as an associate.  White will practice out of the firm’s Portland office concentrating on personal injury, medical malpractice and employment law.

Levey Day School has hired Dr. Stephen Simons as the new director of the Portland Jewish day school. Most recently, Simons was director of education at Congregation Mishkan Tefila in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

Betty Dix
of Yarmouth, human resources manager for Maine Bank & Trust, has assumed expanded responsibilities and is now in charge of all human resource activities for all retail employees in Maine and all bank administrative functions for Maine Bank & Trust, based in Portland and for Merrill Bank, based in Bangor.  She will also support recruiting, compensation, employee relations and workforce development in both bank divisions.

Architectural designer Kenji Funahashi of Portland and licensed architect Peter C. Anderson of Cape Elizabeth have recently joined PDT Architects at the Mt. Blue Learning Campus for a major renovation and addition project in Farmington.

Downeast Energy & Building Supply has hired Jay Prindall of Topsham as service manager in the Brunswick office.  Prindall most recently worked as a project manager for L.L. Bean for the past 20 years.  

Sandra Giles
of Farmingdale was named manager of quality and risk management at Parkview Adventist Medical Center in Brunswick, where she will direct Parkview’s quality management program , systems improvement initiatives and will oversee risk management, medical staff peer review, nursing and non-nursing areas, and quality councils and committees.
