PCA Great Performances
unveils new name

PORTLAND — PCA Great Performances, a non-profit performing arts organization founded in 1931, has renamed itself Portland Ovations.

The organization began as a volunteer effort, called the Portland Concert Association, and focused solely on classical music performances.

The new name was selected to reflect the nonprofit’s multi-genres and wide-reaching community involvement outside of the theater, including outreach activities, master classes, school performances and workshops, said Portland Ovations Executive Director Aimée Petrin in a recent press release.

Friends of Portland
Public Library launches

PORTLAND — In an effort to marshall community support for the Portland Public Library system, local citizens have created the Friends of Portland Public Library, with Ted Spitzer to serve as its president.

The mission of the Friends of Portland Public Library has five primary goals, as stated in a recent press release. The goals of the non-profit are advocacy, community input and collaborations, volunteer support, fundraising and programming.

The inaugural membership drive began last month. Dues are $10 for individuals, $15 for families, and $25 for businesses. More information can be found at friendsofppl.org.

Civic Leadership program
holds graduation

PORTLAND — The Institute for Civic Leadership graduated 34 participants from its 15-day ICL Leadership Intensive.

The program teaches collaborative, facilitative and leadership skills to representatives from the public, private and nonprofit sectors.

New Hires/Promotions

The Portland Harbor Hotel hired Earl Anthony Morse as the executive chef for its restaurant, Eve’s at the Garden. Morse was formerly the chef de cuisine at the White Barn Inn in Kennebunkport.

Dr. Douglas White has joined the practice of Heritage Family Chiropractic as a chiropractic physician, providing management and care of spine, muscle and joint injuries in both its Falmouth and Bridgton clinics. 

Sheila Brennan Nee of Portland was hired as the director of convention sales for the Greater Portland Convention & Visitors Bureau. 

Aric L. Walton of Yarmouth was promoted to director of operations at Demont & Associates in Portland. 

Portland-based K.L. Jack Industrial Fasteners & Supplies has hired Kevin Violet of Gray as an outside sales representative for Cumberland and York County. 

JoAnn Daigle of Falmouth has joined Allen & Selig Realty in North Yarmouth. Daigle has her Broker’s license, is an accredited buyer representative and a member of the Greater Portland Board of Realtors.

Dana Stanley of Cape Elizabeth has joined Maine Street Solutions’ Portland office as the director of market research and new media. 

Joanna Brown Tourangeau of Cape Elizabeth has joined the environmental and land use practice at Drummond Woodsum. 

Spring Harbor Hospital in Westbrook has named seven local residents to its executive team: Steve Batista of Scarborough, controller; Joyce Cotton of Kennebunk, associate chief of clinical and nursing services; Mark Fulton, associate medical director; Jennifer Hunt-MacLearn, director of professional development and performance excellence, and risk manager; John Orlowski of South Portland, chief human resources officer; Chris Simons of Yarmouth, director of health information management and utilization management and privacy officer; Aria Tuki of Cape Elizabeth, director of development and communications.

Crossroads for Women has promoted Susan Lovely of Portland to team leader at its halfway house in Portland; Teresa Bendokas of Freeport to manager of client services; Marianne Donahue of Portland to outpatient clinical team leader. The non-profit also hired three outpatient clinicians for its new satellite office in Kennebunk: Rachael O’Donnell of Limerick, Ashley Weymouth of Portland and Kathleen Hebden of Eliot. Lisa Wishart of Saco was hired as the office manager. Four new members were named to the board of directors: Kristy Greco of Auburn, Emily Semenchuck of Hollis, Carolyn Delaney of Portland and Anna Kent of Portland.

Awards

The Institute for Family-Owned Business named Earle W. Noyes & Sons, Inc. the 2009 Family Business of the Year in its large business category. 

Linda MacDonald of Falmouth, realtor with RE/MAX By The Bay, has qualified for the RE/MAX 100% Club Award in recognition of earning at least $100,000 in commissions for 2008. 

Bishop Richard Malone of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland was presented with the C.Albert Koob Merit Award by the National Catholic Educational Association for his contributions to Catholic education.  

South Portland-based Portland Pipe Line Corporation received the American Petroleum Institute’s Distinguished Award for Environmental and Safety Performance among Small Operators for the second year in a row. 

Lindsey Bomba, a student at Spa Tech Institute in Portland, earned first place in the Junior Star Styles national competition. Bomba was awarded more than $50,000 in cash, education and travel vouchers and an opportunity to work with leaders in the hair industry. 

Consigli Construction Co., Inc., Portland office earned the 2009 Build Maine Award by The Associated General Contractors of Maine for its role as construction manager in the Bates College Dining Commons.

For the seventh consecutive year, the Maine Credit Union League received the Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award from the Credit Union National Association for teaching financial education and money management skills to children.
