Smith opens new ‘room’
expands restaurant staff
PORTLAND — Harding Lee Smith, owner of popular Portland restaurants, The Front Room Restaurant & Bar and The Grill Room & Bar, has recently opened The Corner Room Kitchen & Bar at 110 Exchange St. in Portland.
Sean Doherty, formerly the sous chef at The Edge restaurant at The Inn at Ocean’s Edge in Lincolnville, was named chef de cuisine at The Corner Room. The Corner Room will feature affordable rustic Italian-inspired food, highlighted by fresh pastas and artisanal breads.
At The Grill Room & Bar, Joseph Higgins of South Portland was promoted to the position of executive sous chef, Mark Teffenhart of Portland was named kitchen manager, and Brian Harnois of South Portland was appointed the morning sous chef.
The Front Room Restaurant & Bar promoted Tory Bridgman of Portland to sous chef, with Gregory Wilson of Hollis continuing as chef de cuisine for his third year.

Yarmouth citizen award
NORTH YARMOUTH — The North Yarmouth events committee is seeking nominations for its 2009 North Yarmouth Distinguished Citizen Award.
Th award is presented annually to a North Yarmouth resident who has made significant improvements to the town through volunteerism.
Nomination forms are available at nymeevents.com or at the North Yarmouth Town Office. The deadline for nomination forms is Aug. 14.
Port City Music Hall
debuts TV concert series
PORTLAND — “LIVE at Port City Music Hall,” an hour-long TV program that showcases live Maine music recorded at Port City Music Hall’s Congress Street venue, has debuted at 11:30 p.m., Thursdays, on WPXT channel 51.
The July episodes feature the Portland-based band Gypsy Tailwind performing at its June 20 CD release party for their new album entitled “Grace.”

honorable service medals
AUGUSTA — Governor John E. Baldacci recently presented State of Maine Silver Star Honorable Service Medals to veterans at a State House ceremony.
The awards were presented to recognize Maine veterans who were former prisoners of war and veterans who were wounded in combat and received the Purple Heart.
All of the prisoners of war recipients served during World War II. Recipients include local residents Peter J. Bramsen of Harpswell and Stewart H. Day of Bath.
The Purple Heart recipients all served in Vietnam, with one veteran who served in World War II. Recipients include Ryan D. Jennings of Bowdoinham, Edward E. Langbein of Brunswick, Dante J. Piermarini of Harpswell, Kenneth Finlayson of Portland, Olga M. Finlayson of Portland, Alfred K. Fogg of Freeport, Louis D. Germani of Portland, Richard T. Sorenson of Portland and David L. Stevens of Brunswick.
