Lisa and Ralph Turner, owners of Laughing Stock Farm in Freeport, received the Distinguished Service award from Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Commissioner Walter Whitcomb and Governor Paul LePage at the Commissioner’s Luncheon during the Ag Trades Show in Augusta on Jan. 7. Their contributions to Maine agriculture include sharing their sustainable, four season, agricultural techniques with the farming community. Laughing Stock Farm is a four season vegetable farm with 15,500 square feet of winter greenhouse space, enabling the Turners to supply fresh produce to their customers year round. Lisa Turner provides her vegetables and greens to customers during the Midcoast Winter Farmers’ Market, which takes place every Friday afternoon from 1-5 p.m. inside the Exhibition Hall at the Topsham Fairgrounds. The market runs through April 25, and more information is available at the market’s Facebook page.
