Chris Libby of Scarborough has been named Caregiver of the Month for December by Comfort Keepers, a provider of in-home support services for older adults in southern Maine.

Carmen Fortin of Harpswell, a registered nurse clinical educator at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, has been presented the Maine Emergency Nurses Association Special Merit Award for her work on behalf of the professional organization.

Dennis King, CEO of Maine Behavioral Healthcare in South Portland, received the American College of Healthcare Executives Regent’s Award at the Northern New England Association of Healthcare Executives meeting in November.

Rep. Karen Vachon, R-Scarborough, was recognized for her work in the Maine Legislature to protect Maine’s environment. Prevent Harm, a nonprofit group based in Portland, presented Vachon with the Legislative Leadership Award at its annual celebration in Scarborough Dec. 3. Vachon cosponsored LD 1162 An Act To Ensure Safe Drinking Water for Maine Families, which sought to require improved testing for and treatment of contaminants in residential private drinking water.

Community partners KeyBank and Milliman were honored for their support by Spurwink’s Glickman Academy Vocational Program.

The Maine Army National Guard’s commitment to environmental stewardship was recognized as the “Best in Nation” with the National Guard Bureau’s 2015 Environmental Stewardship Award. The award  was presented to training site staff at the Brunswick Readiness Center. All National Guard facilities are regularly evaluated for compliance with state and federal land use, waste, water quality, and air quality regulations by an independent auditor.

The Maine Community Foundation’s Grants to Green program, which helps Maine nonprofits increase the energy efficiency of historic downtown buildings, recently awarded just over $177,000 to seven Maine organizations, including 317 Main Community Music in Yarmouth; St. Elizabeth Child Development Center in Portland; Chocolate Church Arts Center in Bath and Maine Irish Heritage Center in Portland. The awards support implementation of energy efficiency projects.

Pura Vida Day Spa in Brunswick has won Maine Midcoast’s 2015 Best Facial/Skincare Spa Award.

Mary Walker was named Broker of the Month for November for superior sales at Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage real estate office in Cape Elizabeth.

Giving Back

The Falmouth Rotary Club, in conjunction with the Westbrook/Gorham club, has been working with My Place Teen Center to provide and prepare food after receiving a $3,500 matching grant from the Rotary District to buy fresh produce.

In addition, members have been mentoring needy teens at the teen center after school.

In other Rotary Club news, the Falmouth Rotary Club also conducted a Thanksgiving/Christmas raffle, which netted $1,500 for the local food pantry.

In response to the recent announcement that Shaw’s supermarket chain would be ending its food donation program – with the exception of the Brunswick store –  the Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger made a $4,000 contribution to Preble Street Resource Center in Portland.

Northeast Bank announced it joined the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy in supporting LearningWorks’ family literacy program with a $5,000 donation. The program is aimed at helping new Mainers in Portland increase literacy throughout their entire household.

SheJAMs presented the Maine Women’s Fund with a check for $3,298 to support the fund’s mission, which is to transform the lives of Maine women and girls through grant making, community engagement and support to nonprofit organizations dedicated to social change.

Hires, Promotions, Appointments

Meg McCroary of Portland is the new community outreach liaison at Hospice of Southern Maine.

Alison Tozier has been hired by Taylor, McCormack and Frame, LLC, of Portland. Tozier’s practice focuses on the areas of civil and criminal litigation, labor and business law, landlord/tenant disputes and family law.

The MEMIC Group promoted Wanda Periou to director of claims for the Atlantic region, Karen Porter to director of technical operations for the Atlantic and northeast regions and Joeline D’Anjou to director of claims at the workers compensation specialists.

Tim Renyi has been hired as the new vice president of Sumerian Sports & Entertainment in Falmouth. 

Regan Flaherty of Portland joined the Rogers/Norton Wealth Management Group of Raymond James in Portland as a registered sales associate.

Meteorologist Ted McInerney will join WMTW channel 8, the local ABC affiliate, in January, forecasting weekday mornings along with meteorologist Mallory Brooke.

The principals of certified public accountants Macpage, LLC, with offices in South Portland and Portland, announced that Danielle Gerber has joined the firm as a marketing coordinator.

Scot C. Remick, M.D., FACP, is the new physician leader of oncology at Maine Medical Center (MMC) and MaineHealth in Portland.

Lucie Hannigan has been hired as senior vice president, senior treasury management officer at People’s United Bank.

On the Move

Practitioners at Freeport Pediatrics, 23 Durham Road, Freeport, will begin seeing patients Jan. 4. The Freeport Pediatrics team includes pediatricians Ann Tuddenham, M.D., and Kristen Brown, M.D., as well as pediatric nurse practitioner Elena Wagner, R.N., C.P.N.P. All three providers are residents of the communities the new practice will serve.

Celine M. Godin, MD, MPH, will retire Dec. 31 after more than 15 years of service at Spectrum Medical Group.
