Maine native honored in DIA ceremony

U.S. Army Sgt. Lawrence A. Roukey, a Portland native, was honored for his service and sacrifice by the Defense Intelligence Agency in a ceremony on Nov. 7, at its headquarters on Joint Base Bolling Anacostia, in Washington, D.C. Roukey was killed in action on April 26, 2004, in Baghdad. He was inducted into the DIA Patriots’ Memorial, which honors DIA employees who died in service to the United States in support of the DIA’s mission. 

New Hires, Promotions and Appointments

Gina Hobert joined the Baker Newman Noyes as a senior manager in the health care consulting practice, adding expertise to the health care team in the areas of medical coding and billing education, chart auditing and billing compliance.

Bernstein Shur welcomed Patricia French as the firm’s newest shareholder, expanding the energy and environmental law practice group. With more than 20 years of energy law experience, French’s practice focuses on the energy sector, often working before the Maine Public Utilities Commission and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

New Openings

Ceci Haynsworth, APRN, CNS, has opened a private practice, Conversations About Health, in Portland. A psychiatric clinical nurse specialist, Haynsworth is offering counseling focused on health, wellness, and related choices. She works with adults of any age, no matter their physical condition or medical diagnoses. Previously, she worked at Integrated Behavioral Healthcare, and had a private practice in Yarmouth under the name Zerega.

Recognition

Benjamin Jones, 2013 graduate of New England Law/Boston, received the 2013 Adams Pro Bono Publico Award presented by the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts. This award, given annually upon a select law firm, private attorney and one law student, honors those who have committed an extraordinary amount of time and energy to provide volunteer legal services to poor and disadvantaged clients. Jones is a 2002 graduate of Yarmouth High School and 2006 graduate of University of Vermont.

The James Beard Foundation in New York City has invited executive chef Shannon Bard of Zapoteca, Portland and Mixteca, Durham, N.H., restaurants to show off her culinary talent at the James Beard House. The James Beard Foundation’s mission is to celebrate, nurture and honor America’s diverse culinary heritage through programs that educate and inspire.

Wright-Ryan announced that The National Housing & Rehabilitation Association has named Elm Terrace, Portland, as Best Historic Rehabilitation Project Involving New Construction of its prestigious 2013 J. Timothy Anderson Award for excellence in historic rehabilitation.

CHANS Home Health Care was granted accreditation by the Joint Commission for all services offered, including nursing, rehabilitation, palliative, hospice and private duty care. The Joint Commission is a national organization that surveys health care organizations to assess multiple areas of patient care and safety. Since 2001, CHANS has maintained the accreditation, verifying that the agency is providing safe and effective care of the highest quality and value.

Retired educator and Portland resident Nelson Megna is the winner of the 2013 AARP Maine Andrus Award named in honor of AARP’s founder Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus. The award honors individuals who make a difference in the lives of others, and is the most prestigious and visible award AARP can present to an individual.
