City employees raise needed funds

South Portland municipal employees and members of South Portland Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 1476 banded together last month to raise $840 for the South Portland Food Cupboard in order to buy turkeys about 75 for needy families during the holidays. The Food Cupboard staff informed city officials that they did not receive donated turkeys this year. “The Food Cupboard is an important part of the South Portland Community,” South Portland City Manager Jim Gailey said. “Once we found out the need existed to buy turkeys for the holidays, city employees and IAFF Local 1476 generously opened their wallets to support our most needy citizens.”
