Lumberjack circus-performers roll into Portland

Aerial and circus acrobatics combined with feats of agility and strength, inspired by North-American lumberjacks, loggers and farmers rolls into Merrill Auditorium when Portland Ovations presents Quebec’s Cirque Alfonse: “Timber!” on Jan. 29. at 7 p.m. Cirque Alfonse, established in 2005, is a young circus company from Saint-Alphonse-Rodriguez in the province of Quebec. Its founding members have all worked with some of the most renowned nouveau cirque companies around the world. This troupe is comprised of a team of professional acrobats graduated from the École nationale de cirque de Montréal, as well as a professional dancer, an ex-skiing champion and three talented musicians. This group of performers will blend the arts and techniques of the circus, while infusing them with the most picturesque facets of traditional Quebec folklore. Tickets range from $38 to $50 and can be purchased at portlandovations.org or by calling 842-0800.

New Hires, Promotions and Appointments

The Yarmouth Police Department promoted Officer Kevin Pedersen to sergeant, effective Dec. 30. Pedersen, who started his career with the Cumberland Police Department, joined the Yarmouth Police Department in 2003, and completed his 10th year of service last June. Pedersen succeeds Sgt. Darryl Watkins who retired on Dec. 31, having served for 40 years.

Richard J. Ganong, of Boston and Brunswick, was named senior vice president for development and alumni relations at Bowdoin College. A Bowdoin alumnus with deep ties to the college and community, Ganong has more than 25 years of experience and achievement as a leader in the investment management industry, including demonstrated success in fundraising, strategic thinking and organizational development.

Paul M. Laband and Benjamin V. Tipton, have joined Mid-Coast Medical Group–Adult Care, Bath. With the addition of the new providers, the Bath medical office is now able to accept new patients, as well as offer additional services to Medicare recipients.

Cumberland resident Elizabeth Olivier has joined the New England office of Fisher & Phillips as an of counsel attorney. Olivier’s practice focuses on employment counseling and compliance. She advises employers on various employment-related issues including anti-discrimination laws, wage and hour laws, FMLA and ADA, and employee discipline and termination. Olivier also represents employers in federal and state courts, and before state administrative agencies. She has worked extensively with clients in the health-care industry.

North Yarmouth Academy named Kelly Dun director of enrollment management and financial aid. Dun comes to NYA from Princeton Day School, Princeton, N.J., where she was the director of enrollment management. Dun transitioned from New Jersey to Yarmouth over the fall and now joins NYA full time.
