Bernstein Shur attorneys Naomi Butterfield and Kai McGintee, members of the firm’s Labor and Employment Practice Group and Education Law Group, completed specialized training to serve as external neutral investigators for employers and educational institutions, expanding Bernstein Shur’s workplace and Title IX investigation resources.

Giving Back

This year’s Frannie Peabody Center’s Southern Maine AIDS Walk/5K Run tripled its participation and raised more than$100,000. The event is the agency’s largest annual fundraiser, bringing in close to $50,000 each year to support direct services for people living with HIV/AIDS as well as prevention and outreach programs.

New Hires, Promotions & Appointments

Two former Vreeland Marketing & Design staffers have re-joined the agency in new roles. Jessica Wallace, of Freeport is Vreeland’s new digital marketing director and is responsible for digital marketing strategy with a focus on online advertising, social media and SEO. Jessica Cote of Auburn has joined the firm in the new position of marketing director. She develops and implements fully integrated marketing strategy for Vreeland clients.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office hired a new jail administrator, Major John Costello. He brings with him a wealth of knowledge in the field of corrections.

Anne Theriault has moved to the Falmouth office of The Maine Real Estate Network located at Tidewater Farms, 75 Clearwater Drive. Theriault has over 15 years of as a multi-million dollar producer full time real estate broker.

The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, announced that Marc Gosselin has been named the team’s vice president of corporate partnerships. Gosselin has worked with the Red Claws’ game night staff for the previous four seasons as director of game entertainment.

Mechanics Savings Bank announced the promotion of Ashley Levesque to assistant banking center manager of the Brunswick branch.

The Maine Health Management Coalition has named Lorrie Marquis Potvin, MSM, as director of its health care measurement and public reporting initiatives, otherwise known as Pathways to Excellence.

New Ventures

Maddy Butcher Gray, Brunswick native and lifelong horsewoman, released her debut book May 1. “A Rider’s Reader” is a compilation of personal essays based on a lifetime in the horse industry, from managing her own herd to founding one of the most respected equine news sites on the web.

Recognition

Dispatch magazine, a Portland-based activities and events publication, is marking its third year in business and reporting significant growth in all facets of its business. Dispatch, which covers stories and events from throughout Maine to Portsmouth, New Hampshire, has grown from a quarterly publication to currently publishing nine issues a year, including several specialty-themed issues such as its Ultimate Guide to Takeout. 

Mercy Health System of Maine has earned a top grade in patient safety by an independent national nonprofit run by employers and large purchasers of health benefits. The latest update to the Hospital Safety Score, released by The Leapfrog Group, shows Mercy receiving an “A” ranking in the industry watchdog’s Spring 2014 assessment of U.S. hospitals when it comes preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents and infections.

Baker Newman Noyes’ Brett Seekins was recognized by the LeadingAge of Maine and New Hampshire with their Advocacy Award. Seekins, senior manager in the firm’s Healthcare Management Consulting Division, specializes in long-term care and senior living consulting.

The American College of Physicians honored Martin’s Point Health Care physician Douglas Couper, with advancement to mastership. Election to mastership recognizes outstanding and extraordinary career accomplishments.

Maine Commissioner of Labor Jeanne Paquette announced that Three of Deering Lumber’s stores have earned the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program Award, bringing Maine’s total SHARP worksites to 69.
