New Hires, Promotions and Appointments

Michelle Corry was recently elected vice chairwoman of the Maine Restaurant Association. Corry is co-owner of two Portland restaurants, Five-Fifty-Five and Petite Jacqueline. In addition, the association’s board of directors added two members from the Portland area, Judy Forsley, of Shipyard Brewing Co., and Greg Goforth, of Fireside Inn & Suites.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine has elected four members to its board of directors: Janet V. Britton, Christopher M. Cimino, David S. Sherman Jr. and Melissa Stryer. Britton is an attorney at Portland law firm Verrill Dana, and a resident of Scarborough. Cimino serves as executive vice president of C.M. Cimino Inc., and lives in Falmouth. Sherman is a partner in the law firm of Drummond Woodsum in Portland, and resides in Cape Elizabeth. Stryer works for Hannaford Supermarkets as director of operations for the Portland market.

Norton Financial Services, a Cumberland-based firm offering employer-sponsored retirement plans and investment management services, has hired Alanah Lockwood as a marketing assistant. She previously was a legal assistant at a law firm, and in 2012 earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Maine at Farmington.

Kimberly A. Watson has joined the Portland law firm of Petruccelli, Martin & Haddow. Watson received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine in 1996, and earlier this year earned a J.D. with high honors from the University of Maine School of Law.

Dr. Melissa M. Bowker-Kinley has joined Health Affiliates Maine, statewide a substance abuse and mental health agency, as medical director. A resident of Falmouth, she will oversee patient care in the Portland and Lewiston-Auburn areas. Bowker-Kinley completed a fellowship in public psychiatry at Columbia University, and a residency at New York State Psychiatric Institute. She previously served at Spring Harbor Hospital in Westbrook.

Recognition

The ACLU of Maine on Oct. 27 awarded its annual Roger Baldwin Award to Patricia Ryan of Brunswick. Ryan served as executive director of the Maine Human Rights Commission for 32 years, retiring in 2009. Previously, she helped found the Maine Women’s Lobby, a statewide organization dedicated to advancing the interests of women and girls, and was statewide coordinator of the Maine Coalition for the Equal Rights Amendment. The award is named for Roger Baldwin, an ardent activist for social justice and founder of the American Civil Liberties Union.

New Beginnings

Mortgage Network Inc., one of the largest independent mortgage lenders in the eastern United States, opened a branch office in Freeport on Nov. 12. The office, at 540 U.S. Route 1, is one of more than 40 branches that make up the Massachusetts-based company. Dean Gilbert, who has more than 14 years of Maine banking experience, leads the office.

NBT Bank has opened regional headquarters and a commercial banking office on Merrill’s Wharf, 254 Commercial St., Portland. Based in New York, NBT operates 155 branches in six states, including 15 offices in New England. John Watt has been named president of NBT’s Maine region, after working in financial services for 30 years. In addition, Joe Delano has joined the regional staff as vice president and senior commercial banking relationship manager.

Mid Coast Medical Group, an affiliate of Mid Coast Hospital, has opened a new Topsham office specializing in primary care and family medicine. The group’s Topsham Family Practice is on Wellness Way, just off Route 196. Dr. Paul Hyman heads the new practice. He holds a medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed his residency through Massachusetts General Hospital.
