Army Aviator Wings

AUGUSTA — Warrant Officer Brett King and Chief Warrant Officer Todd Libby of Portland completed the Aviation Basic Course at Fort Rucker, Ala., and are now qualified to be military helicopter pilots.

During a special ceremony, they received their Army Aviator Wings, signifying the completion of over 2 years of intense training.

Libby, who graduated with honors, and King are members of the Maine National Guard’s Third Battalion-142nd Aviation, Detachment 1 in Bangor, assault helicopter unit equipped with UH-60 Blackhawk Helicopters.

Honan named top
financial advisor

PORTLAND — Financial advisor Daniel Honan of Falmouth was recognized as one of the Top 1,000 Advisors in the country in a recent study conducted by Barron’s, the Dow Jones Business and Financial Weekly.

Honan is the senior vice president and senior portfolio manager designations with Smith Barney in Portland.

Awards

Lalla Carothers of Cumberland, Benjamin Boudreau of Falmouth, Louise Haggett and Mary File of Freeport, Rob Wood of North Yarmouth, Abby Smith, Jackson Ruprecht and Matt Nielsen of Pownal, and Philip Hildebrandt of Yarmouth have each been honored for contributions to preserving local ecology with the 2009 eco-Excellence Awards given annually by ecomaine.

Northwestern Mutual named Gaylord E. Davis of Pawlowski Financial Group in Portland its 2009 Western Region Leader Award.  

Maine Center for Enterprise Development was awarded a $49,377 Cluster Initiative Program Award from The Maine Technology Institute to support entrepreneurs working to commercialize new technologies in targeted sectors. 

The Cumberland County Soil and Water Conservation District recognized The Maine Volunteer Lake Monitoring Program with its annual Outstanding Stewardship Award for its commitment to protecting Cumberland County’s natural resources.

Town & Country Federal Credit Union received a Merit Award by the Credit Union National Association Marketing and Business Development Council in recognition of outstanding marketing and business development achievements in the credit union industry.

Shalom Odkara, executive director of Portland-based nonprofit, Women in Need International, received the Friend of Women and Gender Studies Award given by the USM Women and Gender Studies Program.

Maine Preservation and Greater Portland Landmarks has received a $150,000, three-year field service matching grant from The National Trust for Historic Preservation.
