Fire/Rescue awards

NORTH YARMOUTH — The North Yarmouth Fire/Rescue Department recently held its annual awards and recognition banquet.

Chief Clark Baston presented the following awards: Responding to the most calls, John Ames II; community service, Turner Hansel; unit citation, John Ames II, Jim Knight, Fortunat Mueller, Rick Riley, Wendell Woodcock; Chief’s Excellence Award, Lois Knight; Firefighter of the Year, Wendell Woodcock; EMS of the Year, Steve Geary.

Recognition awards for years of service were given to Marianne Quinn, 10 years; Marie Lausier, Wendell Woodcock, 15 years; Steve Geary, 25 years; Norm Smith Jr., Nelson Smith, 45 years. 

Three members of the Auxiliary were recognized for their years of service: Arlene Perlmutter, 5 years; Candy Burgess, 20 years; Candace Smith, 30 years.

Composting business plan
wins USM competition

PORTLAND — Greg Williams and Brett Richardson, graduate students at the University of Southern Maine Muskie School of Public Service, won the 2009 USM Student Business Plan Competition for their proposed venture, Organic Alchemy Composting.

The Portland-based company plans to collect food waste from local restaurants, supermarkets, and businesses and convert it into compost for retail sale.

Williams and Richardson will receive a $10,000 cash award and $15,000 in consulting services.

The business plan for Organic Alchemy Composting was selected from among 33 student teams from USM, Southern Maine Community College, the University of Maine at Farmington, the University of Maine at Machias, and the University of Maine.

Goodwill seeking worksites
for summer youth jobs

PORTLAND — Goodwill Industries of Northern New England, on behalf of Coastal Counties Workforce Board, has issued a Request for Proposal for summer youth employment worksites in York, Cumberland, Sagadahoc, Lincoln, Knox and Waldo Counties. We plan to serve 200 youth throughout this region.

The Summer Youth Employment Program runs from June 8 – Sept. 30 for youth ages 14 – 24. Goodwill determines eligibility and administers payroll.

A copy of of the application for businesses is available at goodwillnne.org/summeryouthrfp and are due by 5 p.m., May 29.

Martin’s Point Health Care in Portland has made the following promotions: Sandra Monfiletto, chief administrative officer; Dan Olsten, chief delivery system officer; Laurie Minott, vice president of human resources.

Cody Harris of Falmouth has joined the staff at Yarmouth-based Bardwell Chiropractic as a massage therapist.

Saint Joseph’s Manor and Catholic Health East Senior Services Management has named Leslie J. Currier as administrator of Saint Joseph’s Manor in Portland.

Alicia Slocum of Topsham has joined Allen & Selig Realty in Bath as a realtor.

Portland-based nonprofit, Maine Citizens for Clean Election, has named Malory Otteson Shaughnessy of Windham as its first executive director.

Kari A. Meidahl-Ernst of Yarmouth has joined TD Insurance, Inc. as an account executive at its South Portland office.
