New Hires, Promotions and Appointments

Sandi Sacco has joined the real estate agency of Fontaine as a receptionist and administrative assistant in its Scarborough office. She previously worked for the town of New Gloucester as deputy treasurer and bookkeeper.

TD Bank has promoted Mark A. Winship to senior vice president and director in technology risk, regulatory and governance, based in the bank’s Falmouth office. Winship has 20 years of experience in financial services and information technology, and joined the bank in 2003. He is a graduate of Thomas College.

The Portland Museum of Art has hired Marcia P. Griswold as public programs coordinator in its Learning and Interpretation Department. Griswold holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Hamilton College and a certificate in nonprofit management from the Muskie School of Public Service at the University of Southern Maine. She recently held marketing and communications roles at the Maine Women’s Fund and at SPACE Gallery in Portland.

Avesta Housing recently appointed the following officers of its board of directors: chairwoman, Rebecca Greenfield, partner at law firm Pierce Atwood; vice chairwoman, Gail McBride, vice president at Norway Savings Bank; secretary, Carol Billington, retired mortgage consultant; and treasurer, Gren Blackall, marketing and banking professional. Avesta is a nonprofit developer of affordable housing throughout southern Maine.

Recognition

Nan Heald, executive director of Portland-based Pine Tree Legal Assistance, was one of only three attorneys nationwide to recently receive the American Bar Association’s Grassroots Advocacy Award. Heald, who has served in her current role since 1990, was honored for her leadership and work to address the legal needs of active-duty military members, veterans, their families and caregivers. She was honored at an April 15 ceremony in Washington, D.C.

The Scarborough Kiwanis Club recently presented its Hero of the Quarter Award to two employees of the Scarborough School District. Thor Nilsen, a retired teacher and athletic director who now manages campus safety and attendance at Scarborough High School, received the award for non-instructional staff. Alicia Sorensen-Biggs received the award for instructional staff. She is the coordinator for the Scarborough schools’ participation in the Maine Learning Technology Initiative, and the districtwide technology specialist.

The Cape Elizabeth real estate office of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in March named Mary Walker as its Broker of the Month, in recognition of her recent sales performance. A resident of South Portland, Walker has been a licensed real estate broker since 1982, and previously worked for the Maine State Housing Authority and for Management Resources Inc.

Grants

Androscoggin Bank’s MainStreet Foundation has awarded nearly $13,000 in its Quarterly Impact Grants to five nonprofit organizations working to help children thrive in southern Maine. The foundation presented $2,000 grants to ArtVan, of Bath; Kids First Center, of Portland; and Youth Entrepreneurship Adventures, of Portland. A grant of $1,880 was awarded to Hear ME Now, of Portland. The Opportunity Alliance, based in Portland, received a $5,000 grant.

PC Construction awarded $15,000 to three Maine-based nonprofit groups as part of the company’s “Building Communities” program. Maine Maritime Museum, of Bath, received $10,000 for its Discovery Boatbuilding Program. Hospice of Southern Maine, based in Scarborough, received $3,000; and Tedford Housing, of Brunswick, received $2,000. The recipients were chosen from among 10 nominated groups through a public voting process that drew over 5,000 ballots.

New Beginnings

Brian Gee and Alex Jensen have founded Innovative Voice Solutions LLC, which sells and services business telephone systems and installs voice and data cabling. Gee and Jensen each have nearly a decade of experience in the local telecommunications market. Their new business is based at 5 Fundy Road, Falmouth.
