New Hires, Promotions and Appointments

Winxnet, a Portland-based IT outsourcing and consulting firm, added experienced professionals in sales, operations and technology leadership positions. Jerry Lawson has more than 25 years of enterprise information technology management. Scott Marino joins Winxnet’s Boston office in a sales support and technology leadership role. He has more than 18 years experience in technology consulting in sales, planning and implementation with Microsoft’s management platforms. Jaimie Rowe joins Winxnet as the operations manager, based in the firm’s Portland corporate headquarters. He brings more than 25 years of experience in all aspects of operations management, having worked at Hussey Seating Company for the past 12 years, where he held the position of director of IT and order management, and most recently director of demand and supply.

Internal medicine physician Amy Etzweiler has joined Mid Coast Medical Group-Adult Care Topsham and the active medical staff of Mid Coast Hospital. She is currently accepting new patients. Etzweiler received her medical degree in 1997 from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, and then completed her residency training at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital system in Philadelphia. Before joining Mid Coast, she worked at Lincoln Medical Partners in Damariscotta. She is board certified in internal medicine.

Yarmouth Boat Yard has hired Jack Stewart as a sales associate. Stewart has been an avid boater most of his life. He bought his first boat at the age 17 and has owned numerous power boats from 14 feet to 35 feet in length.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland named W. Godfrey Wood, of Falmouth, as its new executive director. Wood is the husband of Karen Wood, publisher of The Forecaster.

Betts Armstrong of Scarborough has been elected to the board of Scarborough Land Trust. She is a former trustee at Gulf of Maine Research Institute and Waynflete School, and has been active with Friends of Scarborough Marsh. She also serves on the board of Independent Transportation Network. SLT officers appointed for the coming year are Paul Austin, president; Elizabeth Peoples, vice president; Patrick O’Reilly, treasurer; and Rick Shinay, clerk.

Recognition

Pierce Atwood announced that the National Law Journal has named the firm to its Midsize Hot List for the fourth year in a row. Pierce Atwood is the only New England-based law firm to be recognized for four consecutive years. By selecting Pierce Atwood for its 2013 list, the NLJ recognized the firm for its “keen business strategy” and “forward-thinking attorneys” who are guiding their practices in new directions, strengthening their mainstay practices and spreading into new regions. The Midsize Hot List is the NLJ’s annual ranking of the top 20 firms across the country with 51 to 150 lawyers.

The Insurance Professionals of Greater Portland have named Heather Caston-Talbot of Clark Insurance their Insurance Professional of the Year. Caston-Talbot, a resident of Westbrook and graduate of the University of Southern Maine, has served as president of the professional group that advocates for and delivers continuing education in the insurance industry. Clark Insurance provides business and employee benefits insurance as well home, auto, life, long term care insurance and annuities in offices in Portland, Saco, Windham, and  Manchester, N.H.

Moves and Expansions

Tori Anna Designs, makers of leather and wool purses, tote bags and Maine-milled woolen capes has moved to Fort Andross, 14 Maine St., Mill Two, Suite 220 in Brunswick.

Coastal Rehab opened its brand new rehab clinic in Scarborough Terrace Assisted Living on April 24. This rehab facility is available the public and Scarborough Terrace residents.

Good Deeds

The Rite Aid Foundation made a $10,000 grant to South Portland-based Cancer Community Center. The nonprofit organization will use the grant to provide counseling services to cancer patients and their friends and family. The Rite Aid Foundation previously awarded a $10,000 grant to the Cancer Community Center in 2012. The Rite Aid Foundation, founded in July 2001, is a nonprofit foundation that has awarded grants totaling more than $15 million to approximately 1,248 organizations in 629 communities served by Rite Aid stores.

On April 20, volunteers and the three owners of Portland-based Local Muscle Moving removed nearly two tons of trash from the Portland trails network. The cleanup started on trails around Thompson’s Point and the Fore River preserve, where plastic food packaging, gas cylinders, tires, a broken ATM, several chairs a car’s gas tank were removed. Tires, household waste and discarded electronics were cleaned up in Canco Woods. At the former Riverton Trolley Park, tires, televisions, a weight bench and more plastic trash was removed.

Anniversaries

Five Star Vacuum, located in Cook’s Corner in Brunswick for seven years, is currently celebrating one year in its new location on Bath Road. Five Star Vacuum has been owned and operated by Barry Walter in the Brunswick and Topsham areas for the past 10 years.
