PORTLAND — Motorists in East Deering can expect several weeks of delays as the city begins repaving Washington Avenue between Veranda and Presumpscot streets.

Traffic is being reduced from four lanes to two lanes during the project, which is expected to continue daily, between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., into July, City Hall spokeswoman Nicole Clegg said.

The city’s Department of Public Services also will be making upgrades to sidewalk ramps and utility structures.

In addition, traffic signal cameras will be installed at the intersection of Washington Avenue and Presumpscot Street, beginning July 1 between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Paving of that portion of the avenue is scheduled for July 8.
