PORTLAND — The so-called Patriot Flag will be displayed for four hours on Thursday in the Preble Street Extension parking lot.

The flag that honors the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks will be raised at 2 p.m. by the city’s police and fire departments. It will be on display until 6 p.m., when it will be escorted out of the city en route to New Hampshire.

Firefighter Paul Halverson will play Amazing Grace on the bagpipes during the raising and lowering ceremonies.

The 30-by-50-foot flag, which weigh 75 pounds, is being displayed in all 50 states prior to the 10th anniversary of the attacks that claimed the lives of about 3,000 people.

It will be displayed in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Shanksville, Pa., on Sept. 11.
