PORTLAND
— The committee in charge of recommending who should be the next general manager at Casco Bay Lines has narrowed its list of candidates to 12.

Former General Manager Catherine Debo resigned in June, citing family matters. The Casco Bay Island Transit District Board in August organized a search committee to find a replacement for Debo. Operations manager Nick Mavodones is serving as interim general manager.

Casco Bay Lines posted a message on its Web site on Oct. 29, announcing that the committee received 125 resumes for the job. It chose 12 applicants, each of whom will be interviewed by telephone over the next two weeks. The committee hopes to recommend finalists to the board of directors by mid-November and have a replacement in place by the end of the year.

Matt Hoffner of Great Diamond Island is chairman of the search committee. Other members include directors Scott Johnston of Little Diamond Island, Donna Rockett of Long Island, Chris Hoppin of Peaks Island and Sue Moreau of the Maine Department of Transportation. Island residents Steve Schuit of Peaks and Mary McAleney of Long are also on the committee, along with Bay Lines Senior Capt. Gene Willard and Finance Director Barbara Sawtelle.
