PORTLAND — Pamala Rae Newsham, 68, died Oct. 26.

Born in Portland on Feb. 5, 1941, daughter of Shirley and Richard Doray, she was adopted in 1945 by her mother’s second husband, John Tucker.

She attended local schools and graduated from Portland High School.

She married Russell Allen and had three children together. Later on, she married Harold Newsham Jr., and had one daughter together.

Throughout her life she was involved in community service outreach programs, including helping start the Meals on Wheels program delivering meals to shut-ins and elderly. Additionally, she provided transportation to church meetings and gatherings, and helped coordinate volunteers to raise money for the less fortunate during Christmas, and was an active member of Volunteers of America, Red Cross and the Salvation Army.

Over the years she worked at various local businesses. She ran a small catering business when her children were young, worked at Standard Rompa Textiles, owned and operated a daycare, and worked at Head Hunter Beauty School and Maine State Beauty Academy. After receiving her CNA certificate, she worked at Brighton Medical Center and the New England Rehabilitation Center and was pursuing her LPN degree.

Active in church organizations, she sang in the choir and was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Portland. `

During her courageous battle with breast cancer, she maintained a positive attitude and was a role model of faithfulness and grace.

Most recently she lived at Franklin Towers where she participated in many activities for the elderly.

She was predeceased by her second husband, Harold Newsham Jr.

Survivors include her four children, Patricia Little, and Shirlene Trumble, both of Portland, and Richard Allen of Florida and New York, and Kerri-Jean Newsham of Easthampton, Mass.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were held last week.

Memorial donations may be made to the Cancer Society of Maine.

Arrangements are by Independent Death Care, 471 Deering Ave., Portland.
