PORTLAND — There will be a free symposium Thursday, Jan. 15, about sustainable urban development and green building designs at the Portland Museum of Art.
The event, “Sustainable Portland by 2030: How Do We Get There?,” will include a presentations by Gary Lawrence, the former planning director of Seattle. Since creating the first sustainablility-based municipal comprehensive plan in Seattle, Lawrence has become an international expert on building communities that address human need and environmental limitations.
The symposium, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., will include a panel discussion with elected officials and sustainability leaders. Topics will include exploring ways to significantly reduce carbon footprints, creating broad-based urban economies, new forms of transportation, and promoting innovation and flexibility in public planning and design.
