PORTLAND — The panel conducting the search for the next superintendent of schools has chosen two finalists.
School Committee member Sarah Thompson, who heads the search panel, said one finalist is from Maine and the other is from out of state. Both are men with more than 10 years of experience as superintendents.
Thompson, who would not release the candidates’names, said the two finalists were chosen from three candidates who recently visited the city. In all, 10 people, including five from Maine, applied for the position following a nationwide search.
Thompson said she and three other members of the interview panel will visit each of the finalists’ school districts, where they will solicit feedback from staff and residents.
Following the visits, the delegation will report back to the full School Committee, which is expected to make a decision at its Feb. 25 meeting. The committee is also scheduled to meet with its attorney on Feb. 4 to discuss strategies for negotiating an employment contract.
