PORTLAND — The Maine Humanities Council recently donated more than 600 books to Portland elementary schools, which will use them to supplement school libraries, classroom book collections and lending programs.
MHC partnered with Borders bookstores statewide last August to establish a program where Borders customers could buy and donate children’s books. The initiative netted more than 4,000 books, which were distributed throughout the state to enhance literacy programs for children in elementary school or younger.
