PORTLAND — Police are looking for a man who reportedly followed a girl home from school and forced his way into her home, where he allegedly attempted to sexually assault her.
Police said the man followed a 15-year-old Portland High School student to her Hammond Street home on Monday at about 1:40 p.m. The girl told police she entered her home without incident. However, there was a knock on the door a few minutes later and the man forced his way into the apartment when she answered the door.
The man allegedly grabbed and tried to sexually assault the girl, but the she screamed and was able to fight him off. The assailant fled, and police said the girl received minor injuries that did not require medical treatment.
The suspect was described as a white man between the ages of 19 and 22 years old, standing between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall tall with a thin build and unshaven face. He was wearing a blue knit hat with silver rings around the base, a tan winter coat, a green plaid shirt, baggy blue jeans and dark winter boots.
