YARMOUTH — Yarmouth Arts will host a plein air painting competition on Sept. 12.

The outdoor painting contest on Saturday, from 9 a.m to 1 p.m., is part of a celebration honoring Yarmouth artist Alfred “Chip” Chadbourn.

Artists have to check in at the Yarmouth History Center at 8 a.m. and can then go find a place in town to paint. They must paint in the village, near the harbor, in a park, or on Cousins or Little John islands. Paintings must be painted on the day of the competition.

The competition is open to 75 artists who are at least 18 years old. Artists can register at YarmouthArts.org. Judging will take place at 1:30 p.m. at Royal River Park and 25 winners will be chosen to have their pieces displayed at 317 Main Street. When picking the winners, judges will look for originality and Chadbourn’s influence.

The rain date for the event is Sunday, Sept. 13.
